Are Sansevieria Indoor or Outdoor Plants?

Sansevieria plants, also commonly known as snake plants or mother-in-law’s tongue, are some of the most popular houseplants around the world. With their striking foliage and easy care requirements, it’s no wonder why these plants are so widely loved. But are Sansevieria indoor or outdoor plants?

The answer is both. Sansevieria can be grown both indoors and outdoors with some important considerations. Indoors, these plants thrive in bright, indirect light and can even tolerate low-light conditions if necessary.

They prefer well-draining soil and should be watered when the top inch of soil is dry. If you want to keep your Sansevieria healthy indoors, make sure to give them plenty of bright light and protect them from direct sunlight, which can cause sunburn on the leaves.

Outdoors, Sansevieria prefer warm climates with temperatures between 65°F and 85°F (18°C – 29°C). They appreciate at least four hours of bright sunlight each day but should be protected from hot afternoon sun. Soil should be well-draining and kept evenly moist during the summer months, but reduce watering during winter when growth slows down. Pests & Diseases: Both indoor and outdoor Sansevieria may suffer from fungal diseases such as root rot if their soil is too wet for prolonged periods of time or if their drainage isn’t ideal. Additionally, they may be prone to mealybugs, spider mites, thrips, aphids or scale insects if not taken care of properly.

In conclusion, Sansevieria can be grown both indoors and outdoors with proper care and consideration for their preferences in terms of light levels, temperature range and moisture levels. As long as you provide your plant with what it needs, you’ll have a beautiful and healthy addition to your home!
