Are Sempervivum Indoor or Outdoor Plants?

Sempervivum, commonly known as Hen and Chicks, is a genus of succulent plants native to Europe, North Africa and parts of Asia. Sempervivum are easy to care for and can thrive in many different environments. They are popular plants for both indoor and outdoor gardens.

Sempervivum have thick, fleshy leaves that allow them to store water. This helps them survive in harsh climates where there is little rain or drought conditions. The leaves come in a variety of shapes and sizes, from small rosettes to larger clusters with multiple leaves.

Sempervivum are adapted to living in full sun or partial shade. They can survive temperatures as low as -20 degrees Celsius and as high as 40 degrees Celsius. They need well-draining soil that is low in nutrients, but they can tolerate some fertilizer if necessary.

Sempervivum prefer to be watered infrequently; too much water can cause root rot. During the summer months, they should be watered every two weeks or so; during the winter months, only water when the soil begins to dry out.

Sempervivum produce flowers that come in shades of yellow, pink, purple and white. After the flowers die off, new ‘chicks’ form around the parent plant. These chicks can be transplanted into other areas of your garden or kept with their parent plant.

Are Sempervivum Indoor or Outdoor Plants?

Sempervivum are versatile plants that can thrive both indoors and outdoors. With their thick leaves and ability to adapt to various climates, Sempervivums make great additions to gardens both inside and outside your home. To ensure their health and longevity, it’s important to provide them with well-draining soil and adequate sunlight for photosynthesis.
