Can I Wear Cargo Pants Hiking?

Cargo pants are a popular clothing item for many people, especially those who enjoy outdoor activities. Many hikers, especially those who are experienced, have been wearing cargo pants when they go out on their hikes. But is it really a good idea to wear cargo pants while hiking?

The answer is yes and no. Cargo pants can be a great choice for some hikes, but not for others.

For example, if you are doing a long-distance hike that involves a lot of bushwhacking or scrambling over boulders and other obstacles, then cargo pants may not be the best option as they can easily get caught on branches or rocks and tear. Similarly, if you are going to be in an area with thick undergrowth or thick snow, cargo pants may not provide enough protection from the elements.

On the other hand, if you are doing a short day hike on a well-groomed trail with no major obstacles or thick undergrowth to navigate through, then cargo pants can be a great choice. They provide plenty of pockets for carrying your essentials such as snacks and water bottles, and their loose fit allows for plenty of room to move around freely without feeling constricted.

In conclusion, whether or not you should wear cargo pants while hiking depends largely on the type of hike you are doing. If it’s something short and easy with no major obstacles in your way then they can definitely be a great option. However, if it’s something more challenging with thick undergrowth or difficult terrain then you may want to opt for something more protective such as hiking trousers or gaiters.
