How Do You Camp in Pisgah National Forest?

The Pisgah National Forest is a beautiful area located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of western North Carolina. It spans over 500,000 acres and is home to some of the region’s most beautiful scenery and activities.

Camping in Pisgah National Forest is an enjoyable experience for those who love being outdoors.

Campers in Pisgah National Forest can choose from two main types of camping: dispersed camping and developed campgrounds. Dispersed camping allows campers to select their own individual campsite without making reservations in advance.

Developed campgrounds, on the other hand, provide amenities such as restrooms, showers, and picnic tables.

When dispersed camping in the forest, it’s important to follow all rules and regulations set forth by the US Forest Service. Campers must stay at least 100 feet away from any water sources or trails and only camp in designated areas that are marked by signs or other markers.

Additionally, campfires are only allowed in specific fire rings or grills that are provided at designated sites.

Hiking

The Pisgah National Forest has miles of trails for hiking and backpacking enthusiasts. From short day hikes to multi-day treks through different sections of the forest, there’s something for everyone. Be sure to check with local authorities before embarking on any hikes as conditions can change quickly due to weather or other factors.

Fishing

The Pisgah National Forest is home to more than 30 streams and rivers where you can fish for trout, bass, catfish, sunfish and more! Anglers should be familiar with all state laws regarding fishing before heading out into the forest.

Safety

Whether you’re camping or just passing through the forest, it’s important to be aware of potential threats while out in nature. Bears are common throughout the area so it’s important to properly store food away from your campsite when not using it.
