How Long Is Air National Guard Boot Camp?

The Air National Guard (ANG) is a branch of the United States Air Force, and is made up of members of the Air Force Reserve, as well as active-duty personnel. As such, it requires its members to attend Basic Military Training (BMT), just like any other branch of the military.

For those interested in joining the ANG, how long is Air National Guard boot camp? The length of BMT for ANG enlistees depends on what type of enlistment they are going for. Those enlisting in technical occupations may require an additional two weeks of specialized training after BMT.

Enlistees into non-technical occupations will complete their BMT in only 8.5 weeks.

Regardless of the type of enlistment or occupation chosen, all ANG recruits must first participate in a five-day orientation period at their home station. During this orientation period, recruits will receive physical exams and complete paperwork to ensure that they meet all requirements for service.

Once all paperwork is completed and approved, recruits attend seven weeks of basic military training at one of two Air Force bases: Lackland AFB in San Antonio, Texas or JBSA Lackland AFB in San Antonio, Texas. The seven weeks consists of physical training, learning about drill and ceremonies, understanding military customs and courtesies, and learning about the history and core values of the U.S. Air Force.

After completing basic training, recruits will return to their home station for further specialized training if needed. For example, those enlisting in a technical occupation may complete additional classroom instruction related to their job field at their home station before being assigned to their first duty station.

Conclusion:

Air National Guard boot camp can last anywhere from 5 days up to 8.5 weeks depending on the type of enlistment chosen by the recruit. Those enlisting in technical occupations may require additional specialized training after BMT is completed.
