Is Biking Allowed at Rocky Mountain Arsenal?

Biking at Rocky Mountain Arsenal is an enjoyable activity for both local and visiting cyclists. It is allowed in certain areas, with some restrictions.

The National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) at the Arsenal allows cyclists to ride on paved trails and dirt roads throughout the refuge. Mountain bikers are also allowed to ride trails in designated areas of the refuge, but must stick to the designated routes.

Bicycles are not allowed on hiking trails or unpaved roads within the NWR. Bikes are not permitted on any of the service roads that provide access to facilities and buildings within the Arsenal, including access by personnel and contractors. Additionally, bikes are not permitted on any of the firebreaks or other protected areas located within the Refuge boundaries.

The City of Denver has established a network of bike lanes throughout its streets and parks that can be accessed from Rocky Mountain Arsenal. Bikes are welcome on these bike lanes, but cyclists must obey all traffic laws while riding, including stopping at all stop signs and red lights. Additionally, cyclists must yield to pedestrians when using these lanes.

Cyclists who wish to explore beyond the NWR can use public roads outside of the Arsenal’s fences, provided they follow all applicable traffic laws while doing so. Many of these roads have been designated as bike routes by either Adams or Denver Counties; however, cyclists should use caution when riding on these routes due to high traffic volumes and lack of proper infrastructure for bicycles in some areas.

Conclusion: In conclusion, biking is allowed at Rocky Mountain Arsenal in certain areas with appropriate precautions taken by riders. While mountain biking is permitted in designated areas within the National Wildlife Refuge, cyclists should take care when riding on public roads outside of the Arsenal’s fences due to high traffic volumes and lack of proper infrastructure for bicycles in some locations.
