The Pacific Crest Trail
At 2,650 miles (4,265 km), the Pacific Crest Trail is slightly longer than its eastern cousin. Starting at Campo near San Diego, California and ending at Manning Park on Canada’s border with Washington State.
The trail passes through California, Oregon, and Washington and takes hikers through some of America’s most stunning landscapes—from deserts to snow-capped mountains. Like its counterpart on the east coast, it can be hiked all at once or broken up into smaller sections.
The Continental Divide National Scenic Trail
At 3100 miles (4995 km), The Continental Divide National Scenic Trail is one of America’s longest hikes. Starting at Waterton Lake in Montana and ending near Antelope Wells in New Mexico; this long-distance trail follows along the Rockies as it passes through Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado and New Mexico. Along with being one of America’s longest hikes; this trail also offers diverse scenery ranging from alpine meadows to desert landscapes.
The Arizona National Scenic Trail
One often overlooked option is The Arizona National Scenic trail which stretches 800 miles (1287 km) from Mexico’s border with Arizona all the way up to Utah. This trail offers hikers a unique opportunity to explore some of Arizona’s most spectacular landscapes like canyons and desert plateaus while also taking in some incredible wildlife viewing opportunities.
