What Ski Resort Will Vail Buy Next?

As the largest ski resort operator in the world, Vail Resorts is often on the lookout for interesting acquisitions. In 2017 alone, Vail Resorts acquired Park City Mountain Resort in Utah and Whistler Blackcomb in British Columbia, two of North America’s most well-known ski resorts.

Vail Resorts has a long history of expanding their portfolio. In 2019, they acquired Crested Butte Mountain Resort in Colorado and Stevens Pass Resort in Washington state. These purchases allowed Vail to expand its offering outside of traditional resort “mega-regions” such as the Rocky Mountains and Tahoe/Truckee area.

In addition to buying existing resorts, Vail also invests heavily in developing new ones. This allows them to offer a wide range of experiences, from family-friendly slopes to challenging backcountry runs. They have even begun investing in hotels and other infrastructure at some of their resorts to make them more attractive to vacationers and skiers alike.

Vail has also been busy expanding its presence outside of North America. In 2020, it opened three new ski resorts in Japan: Hakuba Valley Ski Resort, Niseko Village Ski Resort, and Tomamu Ski Resort. The company is also looking into purchasing other resorts throughout Europe and South America as well as additional properties within Japan itself.

So what ski resort will Vail buy next? It’s difficult to say for sure what the next acquisition will be, but it’s likely that Vail will continue to look for more resorts that offer unique experiences or allow them to expand into new markets and regions. Wherever they choose next, it’s sure to be an exciting addition to their already impressive portfolio of ski resorts around the world!
