Pine Knob Ski Resort is one of Michigan’s top skiing destinations. Located in Clarkston, just 30 minutes north of Detroit, Pine Knob has been open for over four decades and is one of the state’s most popular ski resorts. With over 100 acres of skiing terrain, Pine Knob offers a variety of different ski trails for all skill levels.
The resort first opened its doors in 1977 and was one of the first ski resorts to open in Michigan. It was founded by the late Alan Naylor who had the vision to create a ski resort that would be accessible to those living in the Detroit area. The resort has since grown over the years and now boasts 12 lifts, including two high-speed quads, as well as snowmaking capabilities on all runs.
Pine Knob offers a variety of terrain for all types of skiers, from beginners to experts. There are 15 beginner trails with wide-open slopes and gentle grades that make it easy for even first-timers to get started on their skiing journey.
For those looking for something more challenging, there are several intermediate trails with steeper grades and more difficult terrain features such as moguls and jumps. Advanced skiers will find plenty to challenge them too, with some expert runs reaching up to 1,000 feet in length and featuring steep drops and challenging obstacles.
Pine Knob Ski Resort also offers additional amenities such as a full-service rental shop where visitors can rent equipment like skis, snowboards, and clothing; a tubing park; and an on-site restaurant called The Lodge which serves up delicious dishes ranging from pizza to steaks.
