When Did Heavenly Ski Resort Open?

Heavenly Ski Resort opened its doors to skiers and snowboarders in December 1955. It was the first ski resort to open in the Lake Tahoe area of California and Nevada, an area that is now considered a world-class ski destination.

The resort is located on the summit of Heavenly Mountain, which stands at an elevation of 10,040 feet. From its opening day in 1955, Heavenly Ski Resort has been enticing winter sports enthusiasts from all over the world with its incredible views of Lake Tahoe and its challenging terrain.

The resort offers more than 4,800 acres of skiable terrain spread out over 97 trails and 28 lifts. With a vertical drop of 3,500 feet, it’s one of the largest ski resorts in North America.

Heavenly Ski Resort is owned by Vail Resorts, one of the most recognizable names in winter sports. Vail Resorts purchased Heavenly in 2002 and has made significant investments to improve the resort since then. They have added new lifts and trails as well as enhanced snowmaking capabilities to ensure great conditions on all 97 trails every winter season.

In addition to skiing and snowboarding, Heavenly Ski Resort offers a variety of other activities for visitors to enjoy during their stay. Visitors can experience tubing down specially designed runs or take a ride on a zipline at Adventure Peak. Winter activities such as ice skating or snowshoeing are also available for those looking for something different from traditional skiing or snowboarding.

Heavenly Ski Resort has become one of the premier ski resorts in North America since it first opened its doors in December 1955. With nearly 5,000 acres of skiable terrain, plenty of activities off the slopes, and breathtaking views of Lake Tahoe, it’s easy to see why so many people return year after year to experience Heavenly’s slopes and enjoy everything that this amazing resort has to offer.
