When Was Loon Mountain Resort Built?

Loon Mountain Resort is an iconic ski resort in the heart of New Hampshire’s White Mountains. It is known for its thrilling terrain parks, spectacular views, and great snow conditions.

The resort also offers an array of winter activities for all ages and abilities. But when was the beloved ski resort built?

Loon Mountain Resort was first established in 1966, when a group of five local businessmen from Lincoln, NH developed the resort with the hopes of bringing more tourism to the area. The group opened the resort with one double chairlift, two T-Bars, and one slalom hill. Over time, they added more lifts and slopes to create a larger mountain experience.

Since then, Loon Mountain has undergone several expansions and renovations. In 1978, a new triple chairlift was added to provide access to the summit of South Peak.

In 1988, two high-speed quads were installed to create easier access to more intermediate terrain. Additionally, several terrain parks have been introduced throughout the years including The Stash (2011), Glades Peak (2013), and Beast Park (2015).

Today, Loon Mountain Resort is home to over 60 trails spread across three peaks that provide skiing and riding for all abilities. With over 1,000 vertical feet of terrain serviced by nine chairlifts and two surface lifts combined with stunning views of the surrounding mountains it’s no wonder why so many visitors come back year after year.
