In 1969, the resort was purchased by Robert Hensley who transformed it into a first-class destination for visitors from around the world. In addition to adding amenities such as tennis courts and an Olympic-sized swimming pool, Hensley also made major improvements to the interior design and architecture of the hotel. He eventually sold it to Sunstone Hotels & Resorts in 1998.
