Who Owns Crested Butte Mountain Resort?

Crested Butte Mountain Resort (CBMR) is a ski resort located in the Gunnison Valley in Colorado. It is known as one of the top ski resorts in the United States and has been consistently rated as one of the best ski areas in North America. CBMR has been owned and operated by Vail Resorts, Inc. since 2018, when they acquired the resort from the original owners, The Crown Family.

The Crown Family purchased CBMR in 2004 from an entity called Crested Butte Acquisition Company. Before their involvement, CBMR had been owned by a variety of different companies since its inception in 1960.

This included Aspen Skiing Corporation, who owned CBMR for three years prior to The Crown Family’s purchase. During their time as owners, The Crown Family invested heavily into mountain expansion and improvement projects; these upgrades made CBMR into one of the most well-known resorts in North America.

In 2018, Vail Resorts purchased CBMR from The Crown Family for a reported $82 million USD. Since their acquisition of CBMR, Vail Resorts has continued to invest heavily into the resort; expanding its lift infrastructure, real estate development projects and on-mountain experiences such as snowcat skiing and guided tours. This investment has clearly paid off; with skier visits increasing by 13% year-on-year since 2018 and revenue at an all-time high with new record highs being set every year since Vail’s acquisition of CBMR.

Crested Butte Mountain Resort is now owned solely by Vail Resorts Inc., who have invested heavily into improving and expanding the resort over their time as owners. With skier visits continuing to rise year-on-year and new records being set for revenue every year, it looks like Vail’s investment into Crested Butte is paying off – cementing them as the sole owners of this iconic ski resort for years to come.

Conclusion:

Crested Butte Mountain Resort is currently owned solely by Vail Resorts Inc., who acquired it from The Crown Family for $82 million USD back in 2018. Since then, they have been investing heavily into improving and expanding the resort; resulting in increased skier visits year-on-year and record revenue being set every year since their acquisition.
