Who Owns the Mauna Kea Beach Resort?

The Mauna Kea Beach Resort is a world-renowned beachfront resort situated on the Big Island of Hawaii. It is renowned for its breathtaking scenery, serene atmosphere and luxurious accommodations.

The resort boasts two championship golf courses, five restaurants, a spa, and several unique activities such as snorkeling, scuba diving and whale watching. While the resort is widely known for its beauty and luxury, relatively few know who owns the Mauna Kea Beach Resort.

The Mauna Kea Beach Resort is owned by KSL Capital Partners LLC. KSL Capital Partners is a private equity firm based in Denver, Colorado that specializes in investing in hospitality and leisure businesses. The firm has invested in numerous resorts worldwide, including the Grand Wailea Resort & Spa in Maui; The St. Regis Princeville Resort in Kauai; and the Four Seasons Hotel & Resorts in Los Angeles.

KSL Capital Partners acquired the Mauna Kea Beach Resort from Prince Resorts Hawaii back in 2017. Prince Resorts Hawaii had previously purchased it from Japan Airlines (JAL) back in 1991. JAL had itself acquired the resort from the original developer of Mauna Kea Beach Resort, Lawrence Rockefeller.

Conclusion: The Mauna Kea Beach Resort is owned by KSL Capital Partners LLC since 2017. Prior to that, it was owned by Prince Resorts Hawaii which had purchased it from Japan Airlines (JAL). JAL had acquired it from its original developer Lawrence Rockefeller.
