Who Owns the Sea Island Resort?

Sea Island Resort is a luxurious, five-star resort on the southeastern coast of Georgia. Located on the secluded and picturesque St. Simons Island, the resort has been a popular destination for those seeking rest and relaxation since its opening in 1928. The Sea Island Company owns and operates Sea Island Resort. The company was founded by Howard Coffin in 1926 with the purchase of the Jekyll Island Club Hotel.

By 1928, Coffin had expanded his empire to include Sea Island Resort. Since then, Coffin’s descendants have maintained ownership of both properties.

In 2006, Fred M. Kent purchased Sea Island Company from Coffin’s descendants for a reported $450 million. Kent is now Chairman of the Board of Directors for Sea Island Company and has overseen significant investments into both Sea Island Resort and Jekyll Island Club Hotel.
